Restaurateur Chun Kong and his family have placed their business, homes and pensions in the hands of Hugh Davies Associates (HDA) for more than 30 years.
Chun, who owns the Mayflower in Clarence Street, has “100 per cent trust” in HDA’s managing director Robin Etherington.
He says: “We’ve always had this wonderful relationship. Money can’t buy our friends or the integrity of our friendship.”
Hugh Davies Associates has handled the commercial investment in the Mayflower, five home mortgages for Chun, his brother, two sisters and their parents, along with all of their pensions.
Kong family have trusted HDA for 30 years
Their friendship started when an estate agent recommended HDA in 1982 and invited both Chun and Hugh Davies to a Boxing Day dinner at his home.
Chun and his family have never looked back. “Hugh became a part of our family at that first dinner 30 years ago and the same is true of Robin now. He’s always done an excellent job for us, that’s why we’re been ‘married’ so long!” said Chun.
“Robin explains things casually but professionally. That’s Robin. He never sells anything because he is not that type. He’s a fair man and a truly independent financial advisor.
“Robin and his team are in business because they’re specialists but when he gives advice, Robin doesn’t see a pound sign. He tells you what’s right for you.”
The Kong family are not about to change their allegiance. “You don’t change your doctor, dentist or hairdresser,” said Chun. “You stick with what you know and what works for you throughout life.
“I always recommend Robin to my friends and family. He looks after us with a personal service and it’s brilliant that they invest so much back into their business that will actually benefit me and the rest of their clients.”
