The popular press likes nothing better than a “bad news” story about pensions. It started with Robert Maxwell, then there was Equitable Life. Mis-selling scandals, underfunded company pension schemes, volatile stock markets (nothing to do with pensions but all grist to the mill!). No wonder then that so many people shy away from the “P word”.
But they are wrong to do so. The ugly duckling of the past has become a beautiful swan. Increased flexibility and access combined with compelling tax incentives make the modern pension plan worthy of consideration by all.
